I was delighted to have been invited to BBC Belfast to give some workshops on the subject of body confidence to staff as part of their wellbeing Mental Health week.

The benefits of technology enabled us to have a live link during the workshops to staff at Derry who could watch the workshop from their desks on their computers.

Having low body confidence can affect us in many different ways. This can range from emotional eating leading to weight gain or eating disorders, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and confidence. This can lead to people not wanting to engage in social situations and create feelings of not being enough. In some cases this has resulted in suicide.

Life events can also trigger low body confidence issues from grief, relationship breakdowns, divorce or the onset of menopause or illnesses.

What did I learn from this event?

Well aside from meeting some lovely staff members and talking about this important subject, I have learned through my experience of working with clients and talking about this subject that EVERYONE gets affected by this subject at some time in their life.

This could be adults, teenagers, children and at significant times in our lives such as getting your first period, during or after pregnancy and menopause.

During the sessions, I gave some practical tips on how to improve your body confidence with some exercises to practice at home.
